Sadly there is little known about Blessed Robert Meyler. He was apparently a young sailor from Wexford who was put to death for treason. Alongside him were the other sailors Patrick Kavanagh and Edward Cheevers, as well as a local baker named Matthew Lambert. These men were imprisoned, tortured and finally hanged, drawn and quartered at Wexford town in the year 1581 AD. Their crime: they refused to take the Oath of Supremacy which acknowledged Queen Elizabeth I as head of the Catholic Church. Moreover they were involved in helping persecuted priests and other Catholics escape from Ireland on their ship(s).
His feast day is June 20.
