The Irish martyrs are a group of Catholic laymen and women, priests and religious brothers who heroically gave their lives in defence of their Catholic faith. They fearlessly chose to suffer and die rather than renounce their faith which meant so much to them. There are currently 59 native Irish martyrs in the canonization process in Rome. This number is divided into two separate groups, one with 17 martyrs (already beatified) and the other comprising of 42 martyrs (not yet beatified). The purpose of this website is to inform people about these courageous men and women and to promote devotion to them throughout the world.
