Blessed John (Sean) Kearney

was an Irish Franciscan priest who was martyred in 1653 in his 30s. John joined the Franciscans and became a novice master and a teacher of philosophy. He was hunted by the English who had him imprisoned and tortured but he escaped and lived on the run before being captured again and killed for being a Catholic priest. His mother was the Elizabeth Kearney (a member of the 42 Irish Martyrs awaiting beatification). She was also martyred at Cashel, Tipperary. Blessed John is regarded as the patron saint of Cashel as well as young Irish priests. His feast day is June 20th
