Blessed Conor O' Devany was a Franciscan bishop who was martyred on 1 February 1612 AD at Dublin. He was 80 years old at the time of his death. Bishop O' Devany was head of the diocese of Down and Connor. He was originally from Malin Head in County Donegal. Poor Bishop Conor was hanged, drawn and quartered, a horrific and painful death, especially at his advanced age. He apparently kissed the gallows on the day of his execution and exhorted the Catholics to remain faithful. Following his demise a blind man reportedly was cured by touching the remains of the saint. He was buried in St. James's Churchyard, Dublin. His feast day is 20 June.
